The Ford Mustang is the U.S. News’ overall winner for its performance in key areas such as safety, handling and interior quality. It nails a good mix of performance, comfort and space, which makes it a great everyday sports car. We have found it to be our favorite rental car.
The Dodge Challenger managed to win in several categories as well, but its large size and dated interior held it back from true greatness here. It’s not a great rental car.
Another option is the Chevrolet Camaro, which is not a bad car. It’s a good sports car, but it just couldn’t keep pace with its two closest rivals in key categories and we also don’t enjoy driving it as much as the Mustang.
But if you are buying a sports car, as opposed to just renting them on your travels, quit horsing around and get a Porsche. A Porsche is certainly a lot more fun to drive than all of these American sports car legends and more reliable as well according to Consumer Reports, where they rank the Cayenne and the Macan as the top luxury SUV’s. You can even pull your 2 horse trailer or boat with the Cayenne, which has surprisingly more towing capacity than a 4Runner.
