Nana’s healthier recipe with no shortening.   The other original recipe with shortening is here.

INGREDIENTS

  • 1 c. shortening
  • 1 c. sugar
  • 1 t. salt
  • 1 c. brown sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 t. vanilla
  • 1 ½ c. flour
  • 2 ½ c. oatmeal
  • 1 t. baking soda
  • 12 oz. chocolate chips (preferably Ghirardelli)
  • 1 c. nuts (preferably sliced almonds)

INSTRUCTIONS

Drop in rolled balls onto a cookie sheet that has been sprayed with Pam. Bake at 325 degrees for 10-12 minutes (but using large balls and French baking sheets increase to 18-20 minutes).
