Bacon-Wrapped Brat Canapés
INGREDIENTS
- 1 beer and 24 oz. water
- 1 onion, roughly chopped
- 6 bratwursts (I used 3 organic chicken brats from Whole Foods)
- 1 lb. sliced bacon, each strip cut in half
- 24 toothpicks
- 1/4 cup pure maple syrup
- 1/4 c. raw honey
- 1 tablespoon Sriracha (or preferred hot sauce)…another tablespoon if you like it hot!
- 1/4 cup parsley (optional garnish)
INSTRUCTIONS
1. Bring beer, water, onions, and brats to a boil in a saucepan. Cover and simmer for 15 minutes.
2. Let cool. Cut brats in quarters.
3. Preheat oven to 400 degrees.
4. Wrap each brat section with a piece of bacon and secure with a toothpick.
5. Whisk together maple syrup, honey and hot sauce. Brush onto the wrapped brat sections.
6. Place on a broiler or raised rack over a cookie sheet (to catch the bacon drippings).
7. Cook for 35 minutes until bacon is crisp. Garnish with optional chopped parsley.
