White Christmas Cookies as made by my mom. These are our favorite Christmastime treats. They are white frosted cutout cookies. You start with a mixing bowl to make the dough.
- 2 c. sugar
- 1 c. Crisco shortening
- 2 eggs
- 1 cup sour cream
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 5-6 cup flour
Mix in order given, all but flour. Stir in flour. Cut into fourths and refrigerate the other quarters that you are not using. Take one quarter at a time and roll out until they are a little less than 1/4″ thick. Cut out with cookie cutters. Take left over dough, recombine into a ball and roll out a second time. Bake at 350 degrees for 8-10 minutes on lightly sprayed cookie sheets.
For the icing:
- 3 cup powdered sugar
- Dash salt
- ¼ cup Crisco shortening
- ½ teaspoon almond extract
- 1/3 to 1/2 cup of 2% milk
Combine ingredients, adding the milk at the end as needed, to make a wedding cake frosting-like consistency. Frost cookies and decorate with sugar sprinkles.
