These are our simple, no fuss Thanksgiving recipes. Thanksgiving is one of my least favorite meals to cook, everything in the oven at the same time, but all with different cooking times, very unlike French seven course dinner parties which I love cooking. And then there are a lot of leftovers, and we generally don’t like eating leftovers very much.
While we are coming up on 400 years of Thanksgiving in America, since that first one back in 1621, Thanksgiving at the château is something more along the lines of a Beaujolais Nouveau tasting party with a few courses of culinary samplings than it is your traditional American feast for that day. There is a holiday for simply being thankful is something that should be shared around the world. look around the table and be thankful for the foods which represent the spirit of the season, and the joy that cooking has brought to you, and for the many friends and family that you have to share them with.
Cranberries, Tito’s and water is the best way to be festive and to marinate your guests.
Our favorite recipes for Thanksgiving (or Christmas) are:
Fresh Cranberries (which you can make in advance and put in the fridge)
Green Bean Casserole or Green Bean Salade (which can also be made ahead)
Sweet Potatoes (actually candied yams) with marshmallows
Mashed Potatoes and Gravy
Turkey in a Bag with Gravy (or Spiral Cut Ham in a Bag following the Reynolds Oven Bag Instructions, Pre-heat oven to 350°F. Shake 1 T. flour in Reynolds Oven Bag and seal ham inside with the cut end down. Cut six 1/2-inch slits in the top of the bag. Bake for 1.5 hours or the directions contained on the ham, depending on weight. Let stand in oven bag 15 minutes before slicing.)
