Two artists that have come along to walk with us in our lives along the Sporting Road are Danielle Auprix and Cher Devereaux, about 20 years apart. Each bring a distinctive sense of place to their paintings. Though their work emerges from different regions and artistic traditions, both artists share an instinct for color, movement, and emotional connection, oftentimes with horses.
Auprix, a Canadian artist whose work has appeared in galleries from Montréal to Santa Fe, creates paintings with a refined, expressive presence. Her work feels rooted in atmosphere and personal interpretation—art that invites viewers to slow down and find their own meaning.
Devereaux draws inspiration from the wide-open landscapes and Western spirit associated with the Dakotas and the American Southwest. Known for energetic horses, wildlife, and abstract compositions, she uses bold color and gestural movement to convey freedom, strength, and connection to the natural world. She writes on her website: Cher Devereaux is a Colorado artist with a passion for equine and abstract art. She has been painting and drawing since she was a small child and has developed her style over the years, drawing inspiration from the horses in her life and the beautiful nature all around her. She is primarily a self-taught artist and has been influenced and empowered from studying and working with other local artists. “I have always felt a connection to horses. They emit grace, beauty, passion, and driving inspiration for me. Through my art I love to capture and interpret the emotions of that connection through the use of line and color.”
