Evenings in a French Kitchen after Days Spent on the Sporting Road with Paper Hulls, Silk Lines, and Fast Horses

Oatmeal Cookies

 

1 c. shortening

 

1 c. sugar

 

1 t. salt

 

1 c. brown sugar

 

2 eggs

 

1 t. vanilla

 

1 ½ c. flour

 

2 ½ c. oatmeal

 

1 t. baking soda

 

12 oz. chocolate chips (preferably Ghirardelli)

 

1 c. nuts (preferably sliced almonds)

Drop in rolled balls onto cookie sheet. Bake at 325 degrees for 10-12 minutes (if using large balls and French baking sheets increase to 18-20 minutes).
